HELLO!  Most of you already know me, but for those of you who don't, I am the outgoing president of the Vancouver Cathay New Century Lions Club (I'm also that guy who has that has been running around lately with a camera taking a lot pictures at Lions events, but that's neither here nor there).  I have been wanting to send this e-mail for a while now, but I've been fairly busy with everything else that's been going on in my life, as I expect most of you are with yours.

Please let me first Congratulate all of you on being elected the Presidents and Secretaries of your respective clubs.  Depending on how much you put into your clubs this year, this can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can receive (speaking from personal experience, I have been a President three times now).  My hope and goal this year as your, Zone A-1 Leo and New Century Lion Liaison (I'm going to find a shorter name for that) will be to make sure that in the end you will look back and have fond memories of your time serving in your positions.  Now technically, the Burnaby Horizon New Century Lions, do not fall within the Zone A-1 jurisdiction, but I feel because that they are New Century Lions they should NOT be left out.

I am sending this e-mail as an introduction of myself, but more importantly an introduction of each one of you to a larger network of people and resources who can help you succeed in your projects in the coming year.  There is no sense in re-inventing the wheel, and so if any of you have any questions about Lions or need help regarding club operations from a New Century Lions perspective, do not hesitate to contact your Guiding Lion or me.  As much as we try to fight it, we are no longer "Youths" anymore, we are young adults, (well, some younger than others), and as such our ability to impact the community is that much greater.

I hope that over this summer break that you all will take some time to have some FUN and get to know your members through social events or get together.  I would also like to encourage you all to also look above the club level to see what projects you might be able to accomplish if you just joined forces with another club(s) rather than just inviting other clubs to come your events.  Plan events with other clubs and see what can happen.  Here are just some ideas that I have, fundraising for a Lions Dragon Boat team, organizing a Vancouver Sun Run group, and planning for the next BC Children's Hospital Tribute to Mothers Fundraiser.

As most of you have gone to your zone schools, I cannot stress the benefits of having club retreats (or club planning sessions).  Get a head start in your coming year and try to figure out what you're going to be doing rather than waiting for something to happen.

Anyways, thanks for your time and I wish you all the best in the coming year.

Warmest Regards,
Lap Cheung

PS  I have the resources and templates finally pulled out of my archives and cleaned up for general use.   I put together the attachments over the last year, with exception of the agendas, and I think they would be of great help to the younger clubs.  I think that some of the other Lions clubs can also use the documents, but if they are available it can be at their discretion.  Please see below and is also being posted at the Resources page
